Kamsar to Banwat road in dilapidated condition, people suffer

Poonch, Mar 31: The Kamsar–Banwat road in Poonch, which also serves as an important defence route, is in dilapidated condition causing hardships for thousands of residents who rely on it daily.   Locals expressed serious concerns over the poor state of the road, stating that large potholes, broken surfaces, and damaged drainage system have made commuting difficult and unsafe. The situation worsens during bad weather increasing risk for pedestrians and drivers.   The residents said school going children are among the worst affected, as several government and private schools are located along this stretch.   The road also houses key

institutions, including the office of Chief Education Officer and a branch of Jammu & Kashmir Bank, making it a busy route with heavy daily movement.   “The condition of the road is so bad that even walking has become risky. Children, elderly people, and women are suffering the most,” said a local resident.   Despite repeated appeals, the authorities, including the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), have allegedly failed to take any concrete steps to repair the road. Residents further claimed that attempts to contact BRO officials went unanswered, even after multiple phone calls.   Given that the road is also

of strategic importance as a defence route, locals said its maintenance is crucial not only for civilian movement but also for emergency purposes.   Meanwhile, residents have also pointed out that many roads within Poonch city itself are currently in a dilapidated condition. Several internal roads are full of potholes and damaged patches, creating daily difficulties for commuters and raising serious safety concerns.   The residents have urged the district administration and BRO to immediately repair the damaged road, restore the drainage system, and carry out proper blacktopping to ensure smooth and safe movement for the public.
